Stephen Mekosh – Portfolio

Hi! I'm a web designer and developer with extensive experience across local and international news media, higher education, healthcare, and government. I can work comfortably and effectively on anything from UI/UX wireframes and design to front-end coding to APIs and backend development.

Klamath Undammed

This is a multimedia story page I designed and coded to highlight a video series detailing the undamming of the Klamath River. The natural colors of the design echo the river basin landscape and allow the video journalism to retain the viewers' focus.

Life Under The Taliban: A Tale of Two Eras

For this long-form article, I incorporated collages and timeline panels created by our newsroom designers and infographics created by our web developer into a cohesive whole. I broke the timelines into repeatable backgrounds and separate foreground graphics and wrote responsive HTML and CSS to allow the timeline to adapt to any screen size. The result was graphics that could be translated into any language with only minor CSS edits.

View the timeline in English, Dari, Pashto, or Urdu.

World Poll Survey Template PDF

The Population Research team needed a way to publish their World Poll Survey findings in a clean, attractive, and printable format. I designed a Microsoft Word document using the VOA Brand Guidelines to showcase the poll results in a way that non-technical team members could modify for our other languages and export to PDF as needed, on their own schedule.

Digital Performance Report PDF

Our digital team planned to distribute long-term metrics and analysis to high level stakeholders. Using metrics data and findings provided by our Director of Analytics, I designed a multipage document that included detailed text blocks, data tables, and graphs. The result is a document that effectively communicated our digital performance.
